1. When is the general election?

Election day is Saturday, May 14, 2011.

2. What is on the ballot?

Council places one, three and five will be on the ballot.

3. How do I run for one of the places on the ballot?

You must submit an application with the city secretary to run for council. The first day to receive an application is Monday, February 14, 2011, and it must be returned by Monday, March 14, 2011, by 5:00 p.m. This is deadline to apply for a place on the ballot unless you want to be a write-in candidate.

4. What are the qualifications to run for City Council?

The requirements to run for City Council are that candidates must:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be a qualified voter of the City of Burleson
• Be a resident of the City of Burleson and have resided in the City for at least one year immediately preceding the date of the election
• Not be delinquent in the payment of taxes or other liability due the City of Burleson
• Not be otherwise disqualified from serving on the City Council by any other provision of law

5. How long are the councilmember terms?

Councilmembers and the mayor serve two-year terms. There are no term limits.

6. When is the last day to file for a place on the ballot?

The last day to file for placement on the ballot is Monday, March 14, 2011, by 5:00 p.m.

7. How many City Council meetings are there?

City Council meetings are 7:00 p.m. every first and third Monday of the month at City Hall, located at 141 West Renfro Street. There are approximately an additional five special meetings or workshops every calendar year. If you have any questions, please call 817-426-9661 or email us.

8. How do I know if I am a qualified voter of the City of Burleson?

First, you must determine if you reside in Johnson County or Tarrant County. Johnson County residents, please contact the Johnson County Election Division at 817-556-6197 or visit Johnson County. Many questions can be answered through their website.

Tarrant County residents, please contact the Tarrant County Election Division at 817-831-8683 (VOTE) or visit Tarrant County. Many questions can be answered through their website.

9. How do I register to vote and when is the last day?

First, you must determine if you reside in Johnson County or Tarrant County. Johnson County residents, please contact the Johnson County Election Division at 817-556-6197 or visit Johnson County. Many questions can be answered through their website.

Tarrant County residents, please contact the Tarrant County Election Division at 817-831-8683 (VOTE) or visit Tarrant County. Many questions can be answered through their website.

10. Can I vote earlier than May 14, 2011?

There are two ways to vote early, you can vote in person or by mail.

Early voting by personal appearance:

• May 2, 2011, to May 10, 2011

Early voting by mail:

• March 15, 2011, is the first day applications for voting by mail will be accepted
• March 30, 2011, is the first day ballots can be mailed if ballots are ready
• April 29, 2011, is the last day to receive application for early voting by mail in person
• May 6, 2011, is the last day to receive application for early voting by mail by mail
