Who We Are
The Burleson Mayor’s Youth Council is a group of 25 voting youth members, 3 adult voting members, and various City Staff and Community members. Youth are selected for the council based on their diversity of school and community involvement as well as their unique opinions. The council consists of many various points of view in order to appropriately represent the youth of Burleson.
How We Started
The Mayor’s Youth Council was created in 2008 in efforts to give the youth of Burleson a voice in regards to city issues and what they would like to see happen in our community. Burleson citizens 18 years or younger make up about a quarter of the city’s population and Mayor Shetter felt that it was only appropriate that they have someone to voice their opinions.
Why We Are Here
The Mayor's Youth Council is tasked with identifying key community issues that face Burleson youth and advising City Council on youth-related matters. We focus on being actively and authentically engaged with our City Council and voicing new ideas and thoughts about areas that pertain to youth.
