The City of Burleson is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished professionals to the key positions of Deputy City Managers. After an extensive nationwide search, Harlan Jefferson and Eric Oscarson have been selected to join the city's leadership team, bringing with them a wealth of experience and dedication to public service.

"The City of Burleson is excited to have Harlan Jefferson and Eric Oscarson as part of its leadership team," stated City Manager Tommy Ludwig. "Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to the city's growth and development will undoubtedly contribute to a brighter future for Burleson and its residents."

Harlan Jefferson, a seasoned municipal government expert, comes to Burleson with an impressive career spanning several cities in Texas. Most recently, he served as Town Manager of Prosper, Texas, from January 2013 to July 2022.

"I'm truly honored to join the City of Burleson, and I'm excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the staff in delivering exceptional customer service," stated Jefferson. "I'm eager to build upon the city's already impressive financial initiatives, which have earned the organization one of the highest possible bond ratings."

Jefferson began his career with the City of Denton in the finance department, serving in various financial roles for eleven years. His outstanding performance led him to the Town of Flower Mound, Texas, where he assumed the role of Director of Finance/Chief Financial Officer for three years. His commitment to fiscal responsibility and strategic leadership further propelled him to the Deputy Town Manager/Chief Financial Officer position. Ultimately, he was appointed Town Manager in Flower Mound, where he served for six years.

Jefferson will assume his role with the city on Monday, October 9, overseeing the following departments: Administrative Services, Community Services, Finance, and Information Technology.

Eric Oscarson, currently the Director of Public Works for the City of Burleson, is being promoted to Deputy City Manager. He joined the Burleson team in 2022 and has since demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the city's operations.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the citizens of Burleson in my new role," stated Oscarson. "I look forward to continuing to build upon my relationships with the mayor, city council, city management, and staff so we can best serve the community."

Prior to joining Burleson, he served as the Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Sugar Land, Texas, for five years. Oscarson also boasts a commendable record of successful leadership in public works, having held positions such as Director of Public Works for the Village of Schiller Park, Illinois, and Navajo County, Holbrook, Arizona. His extensive experience and commitment to enhancing our community make him an ideal choice for Deputy City Manager.

Oscarson transitioned to his new role on Monday, September 25, and began overseeing the following departments: Community Development Services, Economic Development, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works.

The deputy city manager position has been vacant since July 2023, when Tommy Ludwig was appointed city manager.
