What are the qualifications to run for City Council?

at least 18 years of age on the date application is made for a place on the ballot
a citizen of the United States
a qualified voter of the city (which in this charter shall mean a person who is registered to vote by the State of Texas, whose registration is effective in the City of Burleson)
have been a resident of the city on the date of the election, for at least 12 months immediately preceding the date of the election
not delinquent in the payment of taxes due the city; and
not otherwise disqualified from serving on the City Council by any other provision of law.

1. When is the general election?: General elections are normally held during the month of May. City Elections

2. How do I run for one of the places on the ballot?: You must submit an application with the city secretary to run for council. During the election process the City Secretary's office announces when applications are available for pick-up.

4. How long are the councilmember terms?: Councilmembers and the mayor serve three-year terms. There are no term limits.

5. How many City Council meetings are there?: City Council meetings are 7:00 p.m. every first and third Monday of the month at City Hall, located at 141 West Renfro Street.
