Native Plants and Wildflowers

Fall in North Texas is a great time to plant trees and put down wildflower seeds for next year! Native perennials are a fantastic landscaping option that thrive with minimal watering and fertilizer once they’re established. Many native plants also serve as host plants for pollinators. The City of Burleson’s Environmental Division has partnered with our local Rio Brazos Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists to provide free native plant seeds for residents!

To request seeds, email environmental@burlesontx.com with the following information:

  1. Choose up to three seed packets (example: Texas paintbrush, Butterfly weed, and Goldenrod)
  2. Pickup Location: Choose from the City Service Center or Utility Customer Service
    • City Service Center – 725 SE John Jones Dr (open M-F, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
    • Utility Customer Service – 135 W Ellison St, Ste 109 (open M-F, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

You will receive an email when your seeds are ready to be picked up! We hope to make this as easy as possible for everyone to participate. If your schedule does not allow you to make it to the pickup locations during operating hours, let us know, and we may be able to make alternate accommodations.

Cues to Care

Not sure if your HOA will be on board? Utilize the following tips so that your neighbors can see these plantings are intentional and look lovely!

  • Keep Borders Tidy (physical borders like rock/brick/fences, or clean, mowed edges)
  • Color Scheme (e.g., purples, yellows)
  • Groupings (to provide pops of color that draw the eye)
  • Progression of Blooms (as one type of flower fades, another species is beginning to shine)

Seed Availability

Seed variety is subject to availability and may vary throughout the year. While we do our best to keep the list up to date, not all species may be in stock at all times.
