About Burleson

The city of Burleson was established in 1881 as a depot on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad and incorporated in 1912. Burleson is a thriving city on the southern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, spanning both Johnson and Tarrant counties. The city occupies 28.32 square miles and as of January 1, 2025, serves a population of approximately 55,144 within the city limits. 

The city provides a full range of services that include police and fire protection, sanitation services, library services, construction and maintenance of streets and infrastructure, parks and recreation, code enforcement, planning and zoning, economic development, water and wastewater services and general administrative services.

Burleson Government

The city is a political subdivision and municipal corporation of the State, duly organized and existing under the laws of the State and the city’s home rule Charter. The city operates under Council-Manager form of government. Citizens are represented on the city council by the mayor and six (6) council members, all elected at large to serve 3-year terms. The city council acts on ordinances and resolutions, approves the annual tax rate and operating budget, and generally makes policy for the overall operation of the city. The city manager, appointed by the city council, serves as the chief administrative official of the city and is responsible for the overall operation of the city.

City Council Meetings, Agendas, and Minutes

The city council typically meets the first and third Mondays of the month. Special city council meetings will be called on an as needed basis. Monday regular meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. and are held at City Hall Council Chambers, 141 W. Renfro Street.

City council meetings are streamed live online. Live videos of the meetings, as well as recordings of past meetings, are available on the city's streaming video webpage. Meeting videos are made available for viewing within 24 hours of the meeting, and are viewable for the public for a minimum of two (2) years after the meeting is posted.

Council agendas and packets are posted online and paper agendas are posted at City Hall, 141 W. Renfro St., 72 hours (3 business days) prior to meetings as required by the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Boards and Commissions

The city depends on its residents who volunteer their time and expertise to participate in public service as members of boards and commissions.
