The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) announced that the city of Burleson, Texas, received it’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, the city had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines assess how well a government’s budget serves as:

• a policy document
• a financial plan
• an operations guide
• a communications device

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

In addition to earning the award, the budget received special recognition for Strategic Goals and Strategies. Special recognition is granted when all three reviewers award the highest possible score in a specific category.
