On December 11, 2023, Burleson Fire/EMS proudly welcomed nine new recruits into its ranks: Brendan Boyd, Mohaned Mhanna, Payton Strambler, Hunter Corbell, Peyton Breton, Mason Nevling, Carlos Caridad, Zach Leonard, and Jesus Pena. The addition of these dedicated individuals marks a significant stride in enhancing the emergency response capabilities of the department.
The recruits are set to undergo a comprehensive training regimen encompassing all operational facets of the Fire Department, including fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and adherence to city policies. They will engage in hands-on skills and testing, progressively taking on more complex duties as they showcase proficiency.
The recruits will actively participate in the EMS Field Training Operations segment, learning the ropes of ambulance operations. Approval for patient care activities, overseen by Medical Director Dr. Cordova, will be granted upon successful completion of the EMS protocol test.
The probationary period for these recruits spans one year, allowing ample time for full training and proficiency in all basic firefighting and EMS skills. This commitment to thorough training ensures that the new firefighters are well-equipped to handle a spectrum of emergency scenarios with utmost professionalism and expertise.
It's worth noting that the funding for these vital positions was secured through The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) – a testament to the department's dedication to maintaining and enhancing the safety of the community and the city's proactive pursuit of diverse funding avenues.
