Exciting & Rewarding Position


The City of Burleson offers public safety communication specialists an exciting and rewarding public service position with excellent benefits and a retirement plan. This position receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service and transmits messages via various communication systems consisting of 911 emergency lines, TDD, radio, and data terminals which operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Type 35 wpm
  • No felony convictions
  • Normal hearing, vision correctable to 20/20 
  • Must be willing to work varied shifts, holidays, nights and weekends; subject to mandatory overtime on occasion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Public Safety dispatching experience
  • Bilingual skills strongly desired
  • College degree
  • Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying

Minimum Qualifications


Public Safety Communications Specialists must have the skill and ability to:
  • Interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Prepare clear, concise and understandable written documents and make sound decisions using all available information
  • Coordinate multiple events and emergency responses with the ability to accomplish tasks in a controlled and competent manner while working under stress
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Read, write, spell, and speak in a clear and concise manner
  • Make sound decisions using all available information
  • Read and interpret written instructions and city and county maps
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Detail-oriented; basic math and computer skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other personnel and the public
  • Effectively operate the public safety computer systems, teletype, radio dispatch consoles, telephones and other associated equipment
