The City of Burleson is calling for proposals for tourism-related projects that are specifically designed to attract overnight visitors to the area. The city will provide grants from the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax revenue generated within the Burleson city limits.
The city’s use of funds collected through the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax is governed by Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code. The fund’s primary purpose is intended to benefit the convention and hotel industries through the promotion of tourism to the city.
Last year the city granted money to support: The Heritage Foundation for the Visitor’s Information Center and Museum, historical preservation of the rail cars, advertising of Old Town Burleson, Oktoberfest, Old Town Porch Festival, Cinco de Mayo celebration, and numerous other events funded by the Visit Burleson sponsorship.
The city accepts applications from organizations seeking funds to be used in the development and promotion of tourism-related activities that are designed to promote tourism and attract overnight visitors in the City of Burleson. A selection committee, comprised of senior city staff and local hoteliers, will make a recommendation to City Council for approval.
The deadline for application is March 22, 2021, at 5 p.m.
The complete grant timeline is as follows:
- March 5 – Announce the HOT/MOT Process via press release
- March 22 – HOT/MOT Applications Due
- March 23 – Staff reviews for compliance/completeness and gives comments to the applicant
- March 25 – Applicant to respond with any corrections
- March 25 – Review Committee to agree on projects/amounts to recommend
- March 26 – Applicant notified if committee intends to recommend project for award
- May 3 – Recommendation to City Council for HOT/MOT 2021-2022 Awards
