Winter weather closures

City facilities will be closed starting at 5 p.m. today, February 2 through Saturday, February 5 in preparation for the upcoming winter storm. Essential city operations will still be performing duties. 

The public works team have treated all arterials and bridges with brine. They are prepared with ice melt, sanders are loaded and awaiting deployment, the newly purchased snowplow blade is in place and ready for use. As always, our public safety crews are ready to serve our community. City administration and the communications team will be monitoring the situation and updating the public. 

Here are some things to know

  • Waste Collections has canceled trash and recycling services for Thursday, Feb. 3. Trash collection will be on the next scheduled collection day, Monday, February 7. Next recycle collection will be Thursday, Feb. 10.
  • Waste Collections has canceled trash and recycling services for Friday, Feb. 4. Trash collection will be on the next scheduled collection day, Tuesday, February 8. Next recycle collection will be Friday, Feb. 11.
  • The city has made  preparations if there are prolonged power outages in the city to operate the Burleson Recreation Center as a warming station.  Other  facilities are also prepared to assist as warming stations.
  • If possible, please stay off the roads.
  • If you must travel, slow down and maintain at least three time the normal following distance on snow or ice. 
  • Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas, as they tend to freeze first.
  • Remove snow and ice from your vehicle before driving and ensure your headlights and taillights are working properly.
