[ARCHIVED] Extreme Cold Weather Conditions headed to Burleson

Although there isn't any precipitation likely, it will be dangerously cold towards the end of this week. Temperatures will drop into the teens on Thursday evening and winds will be gusting near 45 mph - tumbling the wind chill down to the single digits. Friday morning, the area will see single digits, and factoring in a strong wind, it will feel below zero degrees. The city would like to inform the public of the local warming centers that will be open Thursday, December 22 - Saturday, December 24, for vulnerable populations. 

Warming Stations

The Burleson Public Library and the Burleson Recreation Center (BRiCk) will be open and can be utilized as warming stations during normal business hours. You do not need to be a member of the BRiCk to utilize the warming station. 

Burleson Public Library Hours, 248 SW Johnson Avenue
Thursday, December 22 and Friday, December 23: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
Saturday, December 24 and Sunday, December 25: Closed 

BRiCk Hours, 550 NW Summercrest Blvd
Thursday, December 22: 4:30 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Friday, December 23: 4:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. 
Saturday, December 24: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. 
Sunday, December 25: Closed

It is important to note that these are not overnight shelters.

  • Tarrant County will offer cold weather shelter at existing emergency shelters located at Union Gospel Mission (1321 E. Lancaster, Fort Worth), Presbyterian Night Shelter (2400 Cypress, Fort Worth), or The Salvation Army Mabee Center (1855 E. Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth).

If your power goes out, contact your electric provider 

If large portions of our community lose power during the extreme cold weather or if conditions worsen, the city will enact the prepared emergency plan and evaluate opening an overnight shelter. Updates and information will be available on the city's website, www.burlesontx.com and social media accounts.
