Former councilmember Ronnie Johnson has been selected to fill the remaining city council place 3 term. Council Place 3 was vacated effective June 5 by Jimmy Stanford when he submitted his resignation on May 31. Stanford was elected to city council in June 2021. City Council voted, 4-2, to appoint Johnson to fill the empty seat during a special session on June 8. Johnson will serve the remaining term limit, which will be up in May 2024.
When a council seat is vacated, the city council can choose a special election to fill the seat or appoint someone to complete the term.
Johnson served on the city council from 2012 to May 2023, when he gave up his seat as Place 6 to run for Mayor during the May 2023 election.
