The city of Burleson is excited to announce the appointment of Cheryl Marthiljohni as the new director of human resources. With over 20 years of human resources experience Marthiljohni brings a wealth of skills to her new role.
As the director of human resources she will oversee the city’s recruitment and retention, benefits and wellness program, employee relations, workforce education and training, regulatory compliance and organizational development.
"We are all looking forward to Cheryl joining our team,” said City Manager Tommy Ludwig. “Her extensive background in HR processes and years of leadership will no doubt benefit our community for years to come.”
Prior to joining Burleson, Marthiljohni served the last 13 years as the human resources director for the city of Victoria, Texas. There she streamlined HR processes by creating a comprehensive new-hire orientation and onboarding process. She also enhanced employee and leadership development by creating training opportunities, career paths, and succession planning.
“Being able to work with the city of Burleson excites me greatly,” said Marthiljohni. “During the hiring process, I had the good fortune to meet members of the team who motivated me to want to join the city and add to what makes Burleson such a wonderful place. I'm eager to find out more about the community and how I can offer my support.”
Marthiljohni holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi and is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). She is also a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and is a Certified Public Manager. She will begin her new role with the city on April 8.
