Community Park Development Update as of August 15, 2024
Thursday, August 15, the Parks Board received an update on the development of the community park. View Presentation.
In February 2024, the city began gathering feedback on a new community park planned for the intersection of Alsbury Boulevard and Hulen Street.
In February, LandDesign, the city’s consultant for the project, conducted a two-day design charette to solicit ideas from the community, various boards, and stakeholders on what they envision for the park. Following these public meetings, a community-wide survey was distributed in April, collecting 870 responses. This feedback, combined with input from stakeholder meetings, has helped shape the initial rendering of the park.
The proposed design includes a range of amenities requested by the public, such as:
- Softball fields that convert to an event lawn and outfields large enough to play multiple sports
- Open space
- All-inclusive playground with ample shade opportunities
- A gathering space such as an event lawn and/or plaza
- Trails both paved and natural
- A dog park
- Bandstand and community pavilion overlooking the pond
- Restrooms
- Sports courts
- Public Art
While this rendering is an exciting step forward, it is important to note that it represents the beginning of additional public input and design phases.
Next Steps: Upcoming public engagement events will be held during the BTX Beats concerts on September 7 and October 26. Additionally, there will be an online opportunity for residents to provide further feedback on the proposed design.
We look forward to continuing this collaborative process and creating a park that meets the needs and desires of our community.

Project Background
The area was previously designated as a Transit Oriented Development (TOD), envisioned to integrate commercial, residential, office, and entertainment spaces around or near a transit station. This designation stemmed from the North Central Texas Council of Governments' (NCTCOG) Mobility 2025 plan, which proposed a future metro transit rail from Cleburne to Fort Worth.
Burleson's involvement in the TOD dates back to 2002 when it was identified as a potential transit stop along the proposed rail line.
However, recent projections from NCTCOG's Mobility 2045 plan indicated insufficient ridership to sustain the proposed commuter rail. Consequently, the Burleson City Council reevaluated the TOD's vision and acquired a 30-acre tract in 2022 to prioritize community-oriented spaces in the western portion of the property.
As we embark on this transformative journey, your input is crucial in shaping the future of our city. We look forward to your participation and collaboration as we work together to create a dynamic and inclusive public space that reflects the heart and soul of Burleson.
