All applicants are required to successfully complete each phase of the selection process. The entire process takes approximately two months. Each candidate will be advised of their status and application test dates as they move through the various steps. The selection flow chart utilized by our agency is listed below on the right.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
One year of firefighting or emergency medical experience preferred
Basic firefighter certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education or certifiable (must attach a copy of certification to application)
Valid Texas Class “B” Driver's License
EMT with EMT-I or Paramedic preferred from the Texas Department of State Health Services
Students in fire academy may apply; completion of the academy and successful passing of state exam will be required for by hire date

Becoming a Burleson Firefighter
Burleson firefighters respond to all fire, rescue and recovery alarms, sustain a high level of preparedness for emergencies, maintain station and vehicles and equipment for fire suppression/prevention and for rescue and recovery.
The most qualified applicants as determined from the applications will be selected to take the test. This posting is to establish an eligibility list.
